Are you a golf lesson beginner?

...then its not too late to jump onto this one.

Introducing!!!
golf lesson beginner

This page is a must for the golf lesson beginner and also the connoisseur. If you take a few minutes before every game to do this exercise you will begin to swing more like a pro.

As Greg McHatton said when asked about what I am about to teach,
"You are learning to take the wrong hand action out of the swing as you will not push the rope or the club with this grip. You can however pull the club or rope very efficiently through the hitting area and I am betting everyone wants to learn how to do that."

Having already discussed both the two fingergrip and rope drills on other pages, it is now time to take a two minute version of each onto the course before teeing up on the first hole.

We do not all have the luxury of having a practice area at our courses so I have devised these two drills when this is the case.

I carry a length of rope, with a double knot at one end, in my bag specifically for the first drill. You can of course skip to the second drill and use a golf club but I personally prefer to get the feedback that the rope gives me.

The purpose of these drills is to feel the quietness of the hands and the unconscious release of the wrists through the hitting area. O.K. let's get started.

The best results will be realised only if these drills are performed with the following grip...

Step 1:

It is essential to place the left hand on the grip with the palm facing downwards as shown here. This will feel a little uncomfortable as the fingers cannot really tighten on the club. You can also see that the club is being gripped in the webbed joining between the thumb and index finger.

Step 2:

Now close the left hand and you will notice that the club is very much in the palm and the other fingers, although capable of gripping somewhat tighter than the thumb and index finger, do not have much control. Notice also that the club shaft is always pointing to the naval during the set-up.

Step 3:

Now place the right hand on the club with the palm facing upwards as shown here. Once again it is being gripped in the webbed joining between the thumb and index finger. This time the other three fingers should be lying very loosely over the left hand and they should not attempt to hold the club.

Step 4:

This last picture shows the rope being held with a very similar grip. You would probably never hold a rope in this way but this encourages your body to adopt a very similar spine angle to that of the correct address position in golf. You are now ready to take part in one or both drills.

Whether you are a golf lesson beginner or connoisseur and you are or are not familar with the rope drill, I am sure you have not tried it with this grip.

The main feeling you should get is that it is very tricky to hold on tightly and if you do it just feels wrong or inappropriate.

Have fun!
