Zen in Golf...

What is Zen in golf? This can in its simplest form be described as letting go of all conscious thoughts regarding results or how to best achieve those results. When a sportsman is in the zone, he thus achieves these results without apparent effort. Finding one’s Zen would be more of a soul-searching experience.

In short, speaking from the soul and getting into the zone are mysteries that cannot be explained using words. What I am going to try to do is explain how I myself drop into this state and find my Zen in golf.

We’ve all been there whether we were aware of it or not. It’s those days when for no reason drives are longer than usual and down the middle of the fairway; or approach shots effortlessly find the greens; or chips and pitches seem to come to rest near the hole; and probably the best of all when putts run effortlessly into the hole as if sucked in by magnetic forces.

The secret is to be non-critical and to accept what is dealt to you at any particular time. It is also worth mentioning that I am almost always most aware of being in this state just as I am coming out of it.

Which means that when I was in it, I was unaware of being there. To put it even clearer it’s probably the awareness of being in it that pulls you back to conscious egotistic reality.

I have ten habits and all or any one of them can drop me into this state. To read further go to the links below for all ten:
